Review | Primal Raw CCC 10’ #6 Fly Rod

I have been using the Primal Raw CCC 10 ft 6 weight for a few months now and it has been my go-to lake rod. Pairing it with the Airflo Sixth Sense 2 Di3 Sweep line and the Clear Camo intermediate fly line in 7 and 6 weight respectively, it's been a great match.

The Primal Raw CCC is light in hand and quick to recover with enough power to cast heavy double rigs but it's not super stiff, allowing you to fish a variety of fly lines from a floater to a Di7. It has the butt power to knock over the fish pretty quickly so that after a few pics, you can get them back in the water so that they swim away nice and healthy. The great thing is that even with all this power you don't lose tip sensitivity. You can really feel the cast and easily detect takes.

The components are top notch with premium low glare snake guides and silicone stripping guides perfect for controlling and casting sinking lines. The flor grade cork handle shape positions your hand towards the top of the grip helping you drive the cast. The custom machined reel seat looks primo and the low glare finish on the blank is awesome when chasing spooky fish in clear water.

Out on the lakes the 10ft length comes into its own for efficient casting all day, as well as fighting and landing fish from the boat with the long tandem fly rigs I often use. The rod really works well with the 7 weight Airflo line when using tandem Buggers on a level tippet. My go to leader is 14 - 18 feet of Airflo Premium Fluorocarbon straight through to the point fly with the top dropper about 5- 6 feet from the end of the fly line.

On top of all this, Primal rods have a great reputation for quick and easy repairs as they are based in New Zealand meaning you don't have to ship them to the other side of the World to get repaired.

The Primal Raw CCC is a high performing, great value fly rod and is available in 9ft, 9'6" and 10 foot lengths from your local Manic Tackle dealer.
