Friday Fly Day - Ronan's Top Three for May
Ronan Creane gives us a quick rundown of his top three flies for May. Check out more from the man himself HERE
#1 Dores Mr Glister.
This all round deadly streamer is right at home targeting fish migrating upriver at this time of year. These migratory trout are often territorial and aggressive and try to kill Glisters!
#2 Jakes Double Bead Rib Worm.
Again thinking migratory fish. We often find them deep in pools - sometimes very deep! In this scenario I need to get deep quickly and this is my favourite double-bead nymph to do the business. Also worth tying a trailer to in case the trout is in a more traditional mood!
#3 OTB H&C Bomb.
This is another great fly to get deep quickly! It also has eggy qualities which will come into play later in May and on into winter. It works well fished alone or with a trailer in tow.
Of course there are plenty May options that don't require big, bold and brash but this is the side of May I enjoy the most!
